Interior Painting Services
We’ve worked on Victorian terraces in Pilton and Sticklepath, and Edwardian semis in Newport. Modern family homes in Roundswell and Whiddon Valley are regular projects too.

Living Room Painting
Living rooms in Barnstaple’s Victorian and Edwardian properties often have original cornicing, chimney breast alcoves, and high ceilings. We paint walls, ceilings, and woodwork as a complete room.
Barnstaple Decorators also cover dining rooms, home offices, and specialist wall painting for high-volume rooms or full-house repaints.
Colour choice matters in rooms with less natural light. We advise on paint sheen levels and colour temperature during the site visit.
For detailed coverage, see our living room painting in Barnstaple page.
Bedroom Painting
A well-finished bedroom with clean ceiling lines reads as calm and well-maintained. Period properties with original plasterwork need more preparation than modern walls.
We take the time to achieve a clean finish at every junction and edge.
Feature wall painting is a popular addition in bedrooms. A contrasting accent wall transforms the character of the room without repainting everything.
For full bedroom detail, see our bedroom painting in Barnstaple page.
Hallway and Staircase Painting
Hallways in Pilton’s Victorian terraces and Barnstaple town houses are rarely straightforward. Narrow corridors, tall stair wells, picture rails, and multiple door frames all add cutting-in time.
We work methodically from ceiling to skirting board throughout.
For full detail, see our hallway painting in Barnstaple and staircase painting pages.
Additional Interior Services
From kitchens and bathrooms to new build plasterboard, we cover every interior surface.
Kitchen and Bathroom Painting
Kitchens need careful surface preparation, particularly kitchen cabinets and surfaces exposed to steam and grease. Getting this right prevents peeling and staining within the first year.
See our bathroom painting page for moisture-resistant systems and mould-inhibiting primers.
Ceilings, Woodwork, and New Plaster
Period ceilings in North Devon properties often have decorative plasterwork that needs careful cutting-in. See our ceiling painting page for standalone ceiling work.
We paint skirting boards, architraves, door frames, and window boards to a consistent finish throughout, including radiator painting where needed.
New builds, extensions, and loft conversions produce large areas of fresh plasterboard needing a sealing coat before finish coats. See our plasterboard painting page for new plaster process detail.

Here's How It Works
1. Site Visit and Colour Consultation
We visit the property, assess every surface, and discuss the scope of work. We note surface conditions, existing paint types, and any period features needing individual preparation. Colour advice is included at this stage.
2. Preparation
We fill cracks, stabilise loose plaster, sand back rough surfaces, and apply the correct primer. Original plasterwork needs more preparation than modern plasterboard. This phase takes longer on period properties and is where quality is won or lost.
3. Paint Application
Ceilings are painted first, then walls, then woodwork. This keeps drips off finished surfaces below. Each coat gets adequate drying time before the next is applied.
4. Period Feature Care
Cornicing, picture rails, and original skirting boards are hand-cut precisely. Where mouldings have been painted over many times, we advise on the best approach before starting.
5. Final Walkthrough
We check for missed spots, uneven coverage, and paint on surfaces it should not be on. We walk through the finished rooms with you and address anything before we leave.
Interior Painting Costs in Barnstaple
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01271 444479 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Cost
Interior painting typically costs between £300 and £550 for a single room repaint. A full-house interior for a period North Devon property typically falls between £3,000 and £8,000. Room size: a large reception room in a Victorian terrace has considerably more wall and ceiling area than a modern bedroom. Surface condition: original lime plaster requires more preparation than smooth modern plasterboard. Paint quality: trade paints like Dulux Trade and Johnstone’s are standard. Heritage paints such as Farrow and Ball and Little Greene cost more per litre.
Typical Ranges
Single room repaint (Victorian terrace in Pilton or Sticklepath): £350 to £550, depending on room size and condition. Full hallway and staircase (period town house, Barnstaple centre): £550 to £1,100. Whole-house interior (3 to 4 bedroom period property): £3,500 to £7,000, depending on preparation and paint specification.
