Door Painting Services
We paint every door type found in the area. Panel doors in Pilton’s Victorian terraces, flush doors in Roundswell estates, glazed doors in Braunton bungalows. We know which preparation each type needs and how to get a clean, lasting finish.

Interior Flush Doors
Modern flush doors are common in Roundswell and Whiddon Valley homes built from the 1980s onwards. Flush doors need flawless preparation because their flat surfaces show every imperfection under light. We use fast-cure satinwood or eggshell for a clean result with no brush marks.
Panelled Doors
Victorian and Edwardian panel doors appear throughout Pilton and Barnstaple town centre properties. Each panel section and moulding requires careful brush work. For exterior door painting, see our front door painting page.
Door Frames and Architraves
Frames and architraves take daily contact: fingermarks, scuffs, and general wear accumulate fast. We paint frames and architraves as part of every door job, masking glass panes, hardware, and adjacent walls carefully. We do not leave a freshly painted door against a tired frame.

Wardrobe Doors, Fire Doors, and Cupboards
Built-in storage doors are easy to overlook, but they cover large wall areas in bedrooms and hallways. Fire doors are heavier and often have intumescent strips that need protecting during painting.
Wardrobe and Built-in Cupboard Doors
We paint cupboard doors in situ or remove them temporarily for a better finish where access allows. MDF doors get specialist edge primer to prevent the raw edges absorbing paint unevenly. We colour-match to existing woodwork throughout the room. For bedroom door and wardrobe work, see our bedroom painting page.
Fire Doors
We work around fire seals carefully and use appropriate paint systems that do not compromise the door’s fire rating. We do not strip or alter intumescent strips. Any door with damaged strips is flagged to the homeowner before we start. For full interior painting projects, see our interior painting page.

Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment
We check every door: condition of existing paint, any damage, and whether the door hangs correctly. Doors that stick or bind are noted before painting starts.
2. Preparation
Surfaces are sanded, filled, and cleaned. Old gloss is keyed so new paint adheres properly. Glazed sections and hardware are masked off.
3. Priming
Bare timber and MDF edges get the correct primer for the material. This step is what separates a lasting finish from one that peels within a year.
4. Painting
We apply two coats of satinwood or eggshell. Each coat is allowed to cure fully before the next. Fast-cure paints mean doors are back on their hinges the same day.
5. Check and Rehang
We check every door opens and closes freely after painting. Touch-ups are done before we leave.
Door Painting Costs in Barnstaple
Prices below are estimates only. Every job is different. Call 01271 444479 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Cost
The number of doors affects the per-door cost: painting a full hallway set of five or six doors is more efficient than a single door in isolation. Door type matters — panelled doors with deep mouldings take longer than flat flush doors. Condition also affects price: heavy paint build-up, damage, or deep scratches add preparation time.
Typical Ranges
Single flush door (Roundswell or Whiddon Valley): £60 to £90 including frame and architrave. Panel door (Pilton or Barnstaple town centre Victorian): £90 to £130 depending on moulding complexity. Full hallway set: 5 doors (frames and architraves included): £400 to £600 for a well-maintained property.
