What’s Involved
Kitchen cabinet painting is a precision job. The finish is only as good as the preparation underneath it.

Cabinet Type Assessment and Cleaning
We visit and check your cabinet material before recommending an approach. Solid wood, MDF, vinyl-wrapped, and thermofoil each need different preparation and primer systems. We assess yours on site and do not quote blind. Kitchen surfaces accumulate grease that prevents paint adhesion if left. Every surface is thoroughly degreased before any sanding begins.
Sanding and Priming
All cabinet surfaces are sanded to provide a key for the primer. A specialist cabinet primer is applied before any finish coats. This stage determines long-term durability. Skipping preparation is the main reason DIY cabinet repaints fail within a year.
Finish Coats and Reassembly
Two full finish coats of specialist cabinet paint, applied by spray or brush depending on the cabinet surface. Each coat is inspected before the next goes on. Doors and drawer fronts are rehung, hinges adjusted, and handles refitted. We check everything opens and closes correctly before we leave.
Finish Options
Spray and brush finishes both produce excellent results. The best choice depends on your kitchen and the look you want.
Spray Finish
The most durable and visually clean result. A fine-mist respray produces a factory-smooth surface with no brush marks. This is the best choice for contemporary kitchens, high-gloss finishes, and colours that show imperfections readily. We spray on-site using portable equipment, with all surrounding surfaces and appliances fully protected.
Brush Finish and Colour Options
Suitable for older kitchens where a slight hand-applied texture fits the character of the property. A correctly applied brush finish produces an excellent result. We work with any colour from any manufacturer. Farrow and Ball and Little Greene are popular in North Devon properties. See our period property painting page for advice on period kitchens.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Costs in Barnstaple
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01271 444479 for a precise quote.

What Drives the Cost
Professional kitchen cabinet painting typically costs between £700 and £2,200. Number of cabinet doors and drawer fronts is the primary driver of cost. Current finish and condition: painted solid wood is the easiest surface to work with; vinyl-wrapped or thermofoil doors require a specific bonding primer and extra preparation time. Spray versus brush: spray finishing takes more setup time and requires more masking of surrounding surfaces.
Named Project Ranges
Small kitchen (10 to 12 cabinet doors), typical Victorian terrace (Pilton, Sticklepath, Newport): £700 to £1,100. Medium kitchen (18 to 24 doors), standard semi-detached (Roundswell, Whiddon Valley): £1,100 to £1,700. Large kitchen (30+ doors, island unit), larger detached or extended property (Braunton, east of Barnstaple): £1,700 to £2,200+.
